BOUND

How can you lose
what was never yours to lose?

The bitter taste of defeat
Wells up,
At times, a waterfall of caged desires
I wonder why I assume failure
I never did compete
I never ran the race; Yet......
With the feet of time
Walking nearer,
Every second,
A second less from life
How much will remain buried
Deep,
Under a thin layer of dust
Dormant, in dark crevices
Destined never to see the light
I dig frantically,
To unearth, all that I can see
Just below the veil
But it is far…. So far
I might never touch it,
Not in this life-time, at least!
I sometimes hear the ominous footfall
Ringing…... Singing dirges
Of all that lies buried, beneath my skin
Can I unzip it, and show you…
My soul, my heart, my mind,
Every tear that blinds,
Every silly moment,
And every crazy rhyme held within?
For I worry,
If you don't memorize
My every curve and side
How will you know it’s me
When we meet again
Beyond mortal sight
On the other side of destiny!
